Haa valley may be quaint and silent. But beyond its still natural beauty – a unique adventure awaits.
Day 1: High Altitude Road Trips and Stunning Vistas
Drive to Haa via Chele La Pass (3,988 m) — one of Bhutan’s highest motorable passes. The drive delivers spectacular mountain-pass views and, on a clear day, panoramic vistas over Haa Valley. If you’re lucky you’ll be greeted by an old man who sells hot porridge from behind his van. The steamy hot tea and porridge as you walk amongst the hundreds of prayer flags will make a great start to your journey to Haa.

From eco camps, cabin hotels to cozy homestays – you can pick your stay comfortable with the list we’ve shared here.
Day 2: Fishing in Glacial Waters
In a valley on Bhutan’s western boundary, grazing up against India and Tibet – one of the best, hidden fly-fishing spots in the Himalayas is now welcoming those passionate about fishing. There are designated spots near Haa Chhu where this activity is allowed. You can contact the Range office at 17611310 to apply for the permit. As the last district to open for tourism in 2002, Haa’s sequestered reputation has oftentimes left it off the tourist trail, despite being a brief hour and a half drive from Paro International Airport and now two hours to Thimphu thanks to the Wanakha–Haa road. This quirk actually increases the value of the fly-fishing experience there, as dense forests line untouched riverbanks and minimal urbanization ensures that valley view’s extend as far as the eye can see. The river itself is clean and the only one in Bhutan to nurture three species of trout: rainbow, brown, and snow trout.

Horse Head Cliffs & Panoramic Hikes
If fishing is not your style but still wish to explore Haa valley’s natural wonder in a unique way, try the one-day Panoramic hike. Just as the name suggests, the Panorama Hiking Trail offers sweeping panoramic views of Haa valley, Meri Phuensum and distant mountain peaks. Although the forest fire that occurred in April 2025 ravaged most of the beginning tree line of the hike, the views from this location are still breath-taking. Make sure your lunch is packed by a local homestay. Braised yak meat with red rice in a traditional Bangchung is the perfect accompaniment to the beautiful vistas of the trail.

As you begin your descent to the villages, there is a small diversion from a canopy towards the head of the horse head cliff. Make sure there’s a local who knows the trail as the jagged pathway is dangerous for those treading the path for the first time. But the stunning views on the rocks on top of the ridge will make any adventure junkie very happy.
End your adventurous day with a delicious local dinner and hot stone bath with local ara.
