This 4 day itinerary is ideal for those looking for easy sacred pilgrimages and a comfortable stay exploring Haa valley.

Day 1: Arrival in Haa

Begin your road trip to Haa early. Enjoy the stunning morning mountain landscapes whether you’re driving from Chelela or Dobji Dzong highway. Whether you’re staying at a local homestay or local hotel, each stay in Haa offers a homely and authentic experience for visiting guests. In the afternoon you can begin your first pilgrimage by visiting Lhakhang Karpo and Nagpo that are very close to Haa town. Read about the history and significance of these temples here.

Day 2: Visit Juney Drak

Your second day in Haa will take you on a short drive through Katsho village’s narrow village roads as you make your way up towards the base of Juney Drak, a beautiful temple on a cliff (most visitors call this the Tiger’s Nest of Haa). Take a short 20 minute hike as you ascend the cliff towards the temple. Read more about Juney Drak here. Book your dinner at a local homestay and enjoy authentic homecooked meals as you prepare for your next pilgrimage journey in Haa.

Day 3: Visit Yangthang Goenpa

Yangthang Goenpa is one of the most under-rated spiritual destinations in Haa. About 5km from Haa, a side road branches right over the river past Yangthang village into Talung valley. Just before you enter the valley you pass the App Chhundu Pang ceremonial ground. At the Makha Zampa bridge a side road branches right 1.5km to Yangthang Goemba, sitting beautifully up on the ridge. You’ll see the beginning of the Panorama Trail from this point as well. We recommend you bring packed lunches and eat in the beautiful pine forests after your visit to the temple. Be sure to pick up your garbage after you’re done.

Day 4: A Spiritual Road Trip Back Home

On your way back, spend some time at Chelela. Take a short walk along the hundreds of hoisted prayer flags as you enjoy the beautiful views of the mountains at 3400 m.
