Ap Chhundu owns six healthy horses and since 2021 he’s been taking guests to some of the most remote highland trekking destinations in Haa

My name is Chundu, and I am from Kajana, Katsho Gewog. I started my journey as a porter pony handler in the year 2021, and I continue to do so to this day. At that time, there were fewer tourists visiting Haa, but this year I had the opportunity to work as a porter pony handler for trekking and hiking through the tender system. I have six horses, which help support my work.

Among all the hikes and treks I have experienced, the Nub Tshonapata trek is the most memorable. This trek not only helps you refresh your mind but also takes you through many beautiful places where you can see a wide variety of vegetation along the way. Although the journey may seem long and tiring, the scenery and views make it completely worth the effort.

I would recommend the Nub Tshonapata trek to tourists because it offers beautiful, untouched nature and a peaceful experience away from crowds. The trek leads to a sacred high-altitude lake that is important to local people, helping visitors understand Bhutanese culture and beliefs. Along the way, tourists walk through forests, open meadows, and yak-grazing areas, and may come across highlanders and also see unique plants and wildlife. The route is not too crowded and provides fresh mountain air and scenic views, making it ideal for travelers who enjoy nature, light adventure, and authentic local experiences.
