1. Travel with the Right Permits

All international travellers to Bhutan must arrange their visit through a licensed Bhutanese tour operator and obtain the necessary travel permits.

2. Respect Local Culture and Traditions

Haa is home to close-knit communities where traditions remain strong. When visiting temples or monasteries:

  • Dress modestly (long sleeves and long trousers or skirts).
  • Remove shoes before entering sacred spaces.
  • Ask permission before taking photographs of people or religious ceremonies.

Showing courtesy goes a long way in preserving the valley’s warm hospitality.

3. Protect the Natural Environment

Haa’s rivers and forests are exceptionally clean and ecologically sensitive. Whether hiking, camping, or fly-fishing:

  • Carry out all waste.
  • Stay on designated trails.
  • Do not disturb wildlife or vegetation.

Seasonal Advice:

  • Spring (Mar–May): Best for rhododendrons and birdwatching.
  • Summer (Jun–Aug): Green landscapes, mild rain, great for festivals.
  • Autumn (Sep–Nov): Ideal trekking and festival season.
  • Winter (Dec–Feb): Clear skies for stargazing and spiritual retreats.
